Acceptable use policy
BudgetUp works because it's a safe, fun place to learn. This policy is part of our terms of use and applies to everyone: learners, institution staff and visitors.
1. Be kind
Don't use BudgetUp to harass, bully, threaten, intimidate or discriminate against anyone. This applies to display names, team names, feedback and anything else you send through the service. Don't choose a display name that's offensive, impersonates someone, or includes personal information such as a phone number.
2. Play fair
- Don't cheat in leagues, quests or streaks. That includes scripts, bots, automated clicking, exploiting bugs, or using multiple accounts to boost a score or a team.
- Don't buy, sell or trade accounts, XP, streak freezes or coins.
- Found a bug that gives an unfair advantage? Tell us. We'll thank you, not ban you.
3. Keep institution codes inside your institution
Access codes are paid for by your university, college, council or employer for its own learners. Don't post them publicly, share them on social media, or give them to people outside the group they're meant for. We may disable codes that are shared widely and issue new ones to the institution.
4. Don't break things
- Don't try to access accounts, data or systems you're not authorised to, or to get around security, rate limits or access controls.
- Don't upload or send malware, or anything designed to disrupt the service.
- Don't scrape, copy or harvest content or data at scale, or use the service to train AI models, without our written permission.
- Security researchers acting in good faith: please report vulnerabilities to [email protected] and give us reasonable time to fix them before disclosure.
5. Don't misuse BudgetUp
- Don't use it for anything unlawful, including fraud or scams. (We teach people to spot Ronnie Rugpull, not to become him.)
- Don't use it to advertise, promote financial products, or send spam.
- Don't present BudgetUp content as personal financial advice to others.
- Staff at institutions: only use reporting features for the purposes in your organisation's agreement with us, and don't try to re-identify learners from grouped results.
6. AI coach (adults, when available)
Don't try to make the AI coach produce harmful, hateful or sexual content, impersonate real people, or get around its safety limits. Don't enter other people's personal information.
7. What happens if this policy is broken
Depending on how serious it is, we may remove content or a display name, reset scores, remove someone from a league, disable a code, or suspend or close an account. Where we reasonably can, we'll explain why and give you a chance to respond. If anyone may be at risk of harm, we'll follow our safeguarding policy, and we may report illegal activity to the police.
8. Reporting a problem
To report something that breaks this policy, email [email protected]. For anything about someone's safety, email [email protected]. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.
