Questions
Is BudgetUp free?
Everything is free for learners whose university, college, council, landlord or employer gives them a code. Without a code you can try the first lesson of every topic and a demo game with no account, and a free account adds one whole topic of your choice and an arcade game a day. Scams and debt-help lessons are always free for everyone. Plus unlocks everything for individuals.
Is this financial advice?
No. BudgetUp teaches how money works — budgeting, credit, tax, scams and more. It never recommends products. For free, impartial guidance we signpost MoneyHelper, StepChange, Citizens Advice and National Debtline.
Is it UK-specific?
Yes. Games use real 2026/27 UK figures — tax and National Insurance, Student Finance England Plan 5 loans, Universal Credit, tenancy deposit rules — with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland differences where they matter.
How long does a level take?
Three to five minutes. Daily quests and streaks keep it a habit without eating your day — and streak freezes cover the days life gets in the way.
How does my university use it?
Students are enrolled automatically through university login or Moodle/Canvas. Staff see anonymised engagement and before/after money-confidence results they can use in Access and Participation Plan evaluation.
What happens to my data?
We collect the minimum, host in the EU, never sell data, and your institution only sees aggregated results unless you explicitly consent. Read our privacy notice for the detail.
