Which of these is the strongest personal Money Rule?
Quick facts
- "I wait 48 hours before any non-essential buy over £30." → Good rule. Clear, specific, doable.
- "I'll be better with money." → Nonsense. Nice energy, zero instructions. Make it specific.
- "Rent and bills come out first, the day money lands." → Good rule. Nana-approved. Fixed costs first, always.
- "I only borrow when I'm sure I'll win it back." → Nonsense. That's a gambling rule wearing a hat.
- "I check my bank app every Sunday for 5 minutes." → Good rule. A small, regular habit. Chef's kiss.
- Agreeing a budget with friends before a trip → S tier (do it). Everyone knows the plan. No awkwardness later.
- Lying about being able to afford something → F tier (don't). Leads to debt and resentment.
- Telling a flatmate early if you'll struggle with your share of a bill → S tier (do it). Early honesty = more options.
- Comparing your bank balance with your mate's on social media → F tier (don't). Comparison is the thief of joy (and savings).
