Questions you'll answer
Mo's thinking of repeating a year. What's the smartest first step?
Quick facts
- You switch to a different course → Yes, tell them. Your funding is tied to your course — it may change.
- You suspend your studies for health reasons → Yes, tell them. Payments may pause or change. Ask about support while suspended.
- You dye your hair → No need. Iconic. Not reportable.
- You leave your course → Yes, tell them. Payments stop and you may have to repay an overpayment.
- You move from halls to a private house in the same city → No need. Same category (away from home) — usually no change. Moving back home or to London would matter.
- Fact: “If you leave mid-term, you might have been overpaid and have to repay part of a loan instalment.” — Overpayments are usually repaid directly, not through the normal threshold system.
- Myth: “Suspending your studies has no effect on funding.” — It can pause or change payments. Ask before you suspend.
- Fact: “University advice teams can help you work out the funding impact of changes.” — That's literally their job. Free and confidential.
